Rebel is the second book in the Renegades series by Skye Jordan. We first met Wes and Rubi in Reckless, which was Jax and Lexi’s story. Rubi is Lexi’s best friend and Wes is friends with and works for Jax, who owns Renegades. Although they are side characters in Reckless, the chemistry between Wes and Rubi is pretty hot in the first book. Sad to say, that explosive chemistry was overshadowed for me in Rebel because of Rubi’s excessive daddy issues.
First, I just want to say I really loved the first book in this series and I’ll admit it set my expectations pretty high for this installment. Unfortunately, for me this one just missed the mark. Which is upsetting because I loved Wes in Reckless and I have been wanting to read his book. I had a hard time connecting with the characters, especially Rubi. Aside from Rubi, the overall plot was lacking in substance and fell flat for me. The majority of the conflict was mostly going on in Rubi’s head due to her trust issues. The pacing of the story was a bit choppy and at times rushed, especially the ending.
I loved Wes, he is by far my favorite character. Despite all the stuff Rubi puts him through he stays attentive and understanding towards her. He’s very loyal and caring, especially loved the scenes when he visited his family. I felt bad for Wes, in my opinion he deserved a better match.
Overall, Rebel was a quick read, but fell short on the mark for me. I found Rubi to be very frustrating as a character. I had a hard time connecting with her. I thought the story felt a bit rushed at times and the plot was lacking real conflict. I did enjoy seeing Jax and Lexi, from Reckless, again. It was nice to see how they were progressing as a couple. I’m hoping the next book will be better.
