Book Review

{Book Review} The Raven Boys (The Raven Cycle #1) by Maggie Stiefvater

My Thoughts:

The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater is a fresh and unique take on the paranormal. I absolutely loved it. I’ve been meaning to pick it up since it comes so highly recommended by many of the bloggers I follow. I finally picked it up when it was chosen as this months group read on Word Nerds. So thank you Word Nerds! Stiefvater’s characters are complex and intriguing. The writing is beautiful, and paints a clear picture in my mind of the world Stiefvater has created.

My favorite character so far is Blue. I love how crazy her family is, and the family dynamic she has going at home. Blue’s family is filled with psychics, but so far Blue only has the ability to amplify the gifts of her family. Blue has always known that  one day she will kiss her true love and then he would die. This prophecy has Blue terrified of kissing. Then she meets Gansey and the rest of the Raven Boys. I love how full of life and fleshed out Stiefvater’s characters are, it’s almost like they jump off the pages. Blue and Gansey completely sucked me into the story.

Overall this mythical tale of adventure and the paranormal was a fun and compelling read. The Raven Boys is beautifully written and I can’t wait to get my heads on the next book in the series. I’m not sure why I waited so long to start it. Have you read it? Let me know in the comments. I haven’t read any of the other books in the series yet so please don’t spoil me.

Stay book nerdy & happy reading!
