My Week In A Nutshell

My Week In A Nutshell 2/5/17

My week in a nutshell is a weekly post I put up on Sundays to share what happened on and off the blog during the week. The Sunday Post is a meme sponsored by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received.

The week is finally over! I had a rough one, and I’m not expecting things to improve over night. I hope you all are taking time to practice self-care. Life is pretty hectic and it is easy to get bogged down with all the crap. I know because it happened to me this week and last week. We all just need to remember to BREATHE. Also, be kind to each other. It’s sad how much people forget to just be kind. It’s such a small thing to do and yet so many people don’t bother. The world would be a better place if we all remembered to practice some kindness.

I’ve had a slow start to my reading this month. I’m not in a slump by any means. I’m just taking my time with the books I have been reading. I want to make sure I’m not just flying through them and missing out on retaining lessons the books contain. It is one of the down sides to being a fast reader. It’s not easy to slow down, so I’m annotating or note taking as I read. I find that works best when I want to ease up on my reading pace.

Nothing else really happened this week, just trying to manage stress and my anxiety. There are some challenges coming up that I’m looking forward to for both reading and my blog. I will let you know more when it comes time to do my sign-up posts. Also a huge used book sale is happening in my area next weekend so that’s exciting! I might do a combo of a haul and blog about the experience. I’ll try to remember to take pictures. Let’s go ahead with the wrap – up for now.

Since I listened to two audio books I didn’t really listen to very much music at work this week. I’m up for adding something to my Spotify playlist though so if you have any suggestions let me know down in the comments. 🙂

I’m participating in #FeministLitFeb this month, so I have quite a bit of non-fiction I want to read. I just finished We Should All Be Feminists  by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and loved it. It is a beautifully written essay about gender, the negative connotations around the word feminist, and why feminism is still important today. It is in my opinion an extremely important read, and I wish everyone would read it.

I also finished an audio book I borrowed from my library via my OverDrive app called The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz. I can’t believe I have waited this long to experience Diaz’s work. I freaking love it. I’m going to write a review of it soon so I won’t go too much into it now. I’ll just say this is an amazing debut novel that follows a Dominican-American teenager called Oscar and his pursuit of love. That is really simplifying a complex whirlwind of a novel, but I’ll go more into it later. I promise!

I finished my second audio book of the month, also borrowed from my library via my OverDrive app (like seriously if you live on a budget like me this app + your library card will open worlds for you my friend), called Yes Please! by Amy Poehler. Amy Poehler is an actress/comedian. I’m pretty sure you all know who she is if you have ever watched SNL or Parks and Recreation. I have only seen some of her movies and her work on  SNL. She’s hilarious and her tongue-in-cheek humor really comes through on the audio book. She narrates it herself along with some guests. I think that is part of why I liked it so much. It just felt like she was having a one-on-one conversation with me. I really loved it and now I feel the need to binge watch Parks and Recreation on Netflix.

Those are the three books I’ve finished this week. If you want more of my thoughts and ratings on each one you can check out my weekly reading vlog on my YouTube channel. I know I want to do a full review on the Junot Diaz book, but I’m not sure if I’ll write a review for the other two. I just feel so weird writing a review for a non-fiction book. I should probably get over that.

    1. Thanks! I want to do some because I’m really enjoying the ones I’m reading. I just have to figure out how to format a non-fiction review.
