Book Haul, Memes

Stacking the Shelves | April 2018

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

Hey book nerds! So I know Stacking the Shelves usually goes up on a Saturday, but I ran late with this one and I didn’t get this up before I left for my L.A. Trip. I recently received a batch of books for review via NetGalley. I also haven’t shared my BOTM from April yet. I meant to do an unboxing video when I got the package but life got crazy busy and then I forgot. The story of my life. haha!

Let’s get started! I will link to the Goodreads page for each book below as well in case you want to check them out.

A River of Stars by Vanessa Hua – No clue what this one is about. No surprise there since I go into my books as blind as possible. I love the cover which is what initially caught my eye. Then I saw that this book was a debut own voices novel about Chinese immigrants and I was sold. I haven’t read many books from the perspective of an Asian character. I really wanted to expand my reading horizons and find some own voices stories to add to my tbr. I’m very excited to start this one. It is getting some great reviews on Goodreads.
The Other Woman by Sandie Jones – I chose this one because this reminded me of that one Jennifer Lopez movie, Monster-In-Law. Only, in this case, this is a psychological thriller and not a romantic comedy. I’m interested to see if the spin will work for me.
Kiss of the Royal by Lindsey Duga– Total pretty cover pick. I mean look at how pretty it is.
Cooper’s Charm by Lori Foster– I love Lori Foster. She’s an auto-request/auto-buy author for me. Also, that adorable ball of fluff on the cover looks so freakin’ cuddly! I want to squeeze the puppy 🙂
The Infinite Blacktop by Sara Gran – So I had no idea when I requested this one that it was the third book in a series. I’m going to have to see if my library has the first too. I was drawn to it because it was described as a gritty noir mystery. That’s totally my jam so I’m hoping I will like the books enough to continue the series.
Star-Touched Stories by Roshani Chokshi – I loved The Star-Touched Queen and A Crown of Wishes so I jumped at the chance to read this one for review. I can’t wait to dive back into the world that Chokshi has created.
In your Hands by Inês Pedrosa – This is a multi-generational saga that begins in 1935 Portugal. I’m loving the cover of this one. I love me some family saga’s that span multiple generations. I don’t think I’ve read any that were told from the perspective of Portuguese characters yet so I’m excited to pick this one up soon.
Fresh Ink by Lamar Giles – This is a collection of diverse short stories written by some very popular authors like Nicola Yoon, Jason Reynolds, and Melissa De La Cruz to name a few. I really enjoy short story collections and I’m hoping to really love this one.
BOTM Subscription Box:
Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell – First, this was a cover buy. It should be obvious by now that I am a sucker for a pretty cover. This is a mystery thriller about a missing child. I don’t know anything else about it and I don’t really want to know anything else until I read it.
Circe by Madeline Miller – So I don’t remember if I’ve shared this here on the blog, I think I’ve mentioned it on my channel though, I really enjoy mythology. I don’t have a preference on pantheon, I pretty much find them all fascinating. I also am a lover of historical fiction and retellings so this one is a must read for me. Plus, that cover is gorgeous.
Salvage the Bones by Jesmyn Ward – I still have not read anything from this author. I do have a copy of Sing, Unburied, Sing that I also received from BOTM. I need to finally pick it up and read it because I hear it is fantastic.
That my friends is it for my April 2018 book haul. I’ve been doing pretty great about being very selective about the books I add to my tbr. Of course, that has gone totally out the window so far in May. That’s a different post though so you’ll have to wait and see.
Let’s chat down below in the comments! What books have you added to your tbr recently?

As always keep on reading and stay book nerdy my friends!
