Hi friends! First I want to say if you are still here that I’m so sorry for disappearing without any notice. This past year and a half have been very difficult for me and I just needed time to focus on taking care of myself. I also wasn’t reading so I didn’t really have anything I could post content-wise. I’m just now starting to come out of my reading slump and starting to feel like myself again so I figured it would be a good idea to check-in. I’m not entirely sure where to start so let’s do a currently reading post.
As I mentioned earlier I went through a reading slump while I was on break. I’m just starting to pick up reading again and it feels pretty good to get lost in a good book again. That said I’ve read 5 books this month so far. I’m not pressuring myself and just picking up whatever catches my interest on my physical shelves or on my Kindle. Here are the books I’ve read so far this month.
I picked this one up at Barnes and Noble while I was out and about with my sister in September. I remember the only reason I picked it up was to see if I would like Zaniel more than Anita or Merry. It took me about four weeks to read it. I found it an easy read when I did manage to pick it up but it didn’t draw me in enough to make me keep picking it back up. The concept definitely intrigued me but in the end, I just didn’t care enough about Zaniel as a character to really care what happened to him. He just fell very flat as a character to me. I would rate this book around 3.25 stars. I didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it either.
Next, I picked up The Gilded Ones on my Kindle. I had received an e-arc via NetGalley from the publisher a while back. I completely forgot I even had this one on my anticipated reads list. I really loved this one. I will do a full review on this one so I won’t go into my thoughts on this one. I’ll just say I really enjoyed it and I feel like this book helped to pull me out of my slump.
My friend Johanna gifted this one to me and I finally got around to picking it up. I loved the art. I loved the message this book delivers. It was one I really needed at the moment that I read it. I laughed, and I cried. I cannot recommend this one enough. No matter your age this book is for you, especially if like me you have been struggling lately. This is a 5 star read for me.
Then I picked Fable on my Kindle. This was also another e-Arc that I completely forgot that I had in my library. I really enjoyed it and I’ll give a full review as well. I immediately picked up Namesake via Scribd and finished it in four hours. It really sucked me in. Is it the best YA adventure fantasy I’ve ever read? No, but it was a very easy and fast-paced read. I’ll talk about it more when I do a review of the duology.
During my slump, I stacked up on Audible credits so I used them this month and picked up some book suggestions after watching some Booktube. One of the audiobooks I picked up was Vita Nostra. I’m currently around 10% into the book. I’m not expecting it to be very fast-paced since all the reviews I’ve seen are that it moves slow and is character-driven. I’ll share my thoughts with you once I get a bit further into the book. Have you read this one yet?
That’s it for my reading update. I’m still feeling my way out of the slump but I’m open to any recommendations you think I might enjoy based on the books I’ve listed above. I feel out of touch with book releases and such so I’m not even sure if there is anything out there that I might be missing out on. So please feel free to point me in a direction you think I’ll truly enjoy.
Your turn! How have you been? What’s the last book you read that you really loved? Let’s chat down below in the comments.
