Book Haul

Stacking The Shelves 12/11/21

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in a physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts, and of course ebooks!

Hi friends! I hope you are having a good weekend so far. I’ve been working on filming and editing videos for the end of the year all morning. It is very time-consuming but I do enjoy the process. I have also been doing my best to work through my TBR for the month. So far I’ve read 8 books in December. I will post a mid-month wrap-up for that soon so keep an eye for that. My TBR just keeps growing though because even though I’ve been reading again I keep taking advantage of eBook deals as well as I’ve received some galleys for review. That said let’s jump into this week’s haul.

I also was able to get the following eBooks on sale on Amazon via their Kindle daily and monthly deals.

The Spires by Kate Moretti is a psychological thriller that follows a troubled woman who becomes consumed by a past she’s desperate to forget. Penelope Cox barely has her life together when the past comes knocking at her door. Willa Blaine, her old roommate, needs her help: a refuge from an abusive husband. Twenty years earlier, Penelope, Willa, and three friends lived together in a converted church, they called themselves “the Spires.” Nights filled with wild parties soon gave way to a building tension fueled by jealousy, resentment, and obsession. Things come to a head during a night of partying that ended in a deadly fire, leaving the Spires forever altered. Now Penelope questions what ulterior motives Willa may have by seeking refuge in her home. This seems like it will be a very intense read so I’m here for it.

The Burning God by R.F. Kuang is the third book in the Poppy War trilogy. I can’t really say much about it as it could spoil the other books for those of you that haven’t read them yet. This is an adult fantasy series filled with magic, high-stakes political maneuvering, and action-packed battles. I loved the first two books. I’ve been meaning to pick up the third so I can’t wait to read this one.

No Way Back by J.B. Turner is the first book in the Jack McNeal series. This is a mystery crime thriller that follows YPD detective Jack McNeal who becomes the prime suspect in the disappearance of his wife, Caroline. When her body is found, Jack overwhelmed with grief takes on the hunt for the killer himself. I’m expecting this to be one of those gritty crime thrillers with lots of twists and turns.

The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix has been pitched as Fried Green Tomatoes and Steel Magnolia meets Dracula. I’m a fan of all three so I had to have it.

The Book of Accidents by Chuck Wendig is a literary paranormal horror that follows a family that has returned to their hometown and has to confront the past that still haunts them. It seems like people either like this book or don’t. I’m interested to see where I fall on it so I’m looking forward to reading it.

A Lot Like Adiós by Alexis Daria is the second book in the Primas of Power series. This is a contemporary romance. I know what you’re thinking. Andie, you are not a huge fan of romance what are you doing? I picked this one up because the characters sounded interesting and well I like the cover. I’m going to try and read it in December for Merry Bookmas.

I won’t lie all three of these were cover buys and the super low price from the Kindle deals made them One-Click purchases for me. I believe the first two are thrillers and the third book is contemporary romance that features a library. I love books with libraries and bookshops in them so I’m hoping I’ll like it.

I picked up all three of these via Kindle deals. I’ve had them on my radar after seeing several booktubers I follow talk about them. Also, Silvia Moreno-Garcia is an auto buy author for me so I had to get The Beautiful Ones regardless of the price.

I have had these on my radar this year but was trying to get them via the library. However, they went on sale during Black Friday so I decided to go ahead and pick them up for my Kindle.

Next up are the books I received from publishers in exchange for review via Edelweiss and NetGalley. I won’t go into what the books are about just yet because I’ll do that when I post the reviews. I’ll just share what they are here today so you know what reviews will be coming up on the blog once I get them read.

That’s all the books I’ve added to my TBR this week. I’m still waiting on my BOTM picks to come in which hopefully will be this week. I’ll share those with you when I get them.

Let’s chat down below. Have you read these? Did you do an STS post? Do you have any book recommendations for me? Please let me know down below so I can check them out.
